It is now one year since the talented cinematographer and director Jeeva passed away. With rich experience amalgamated with a flamboyant style of filmmaking, he had delivered super duper hits with '12B', 'Ullam Ketkume' and 'Unnale Unnale'.
All these movies have Jeeva's inimitable signature on them .the magic of effervescent youth captured in vibrant colors guided by slick narration that had it in them to penetrate and permeate within the hearts of the young at heart. Boy-girl relationships with spectacular gender conflicts formed his passionate repertoire.
Groomed under P.C. Shriram in movies like Nayagan, Jeeva became a cinematographer hugely in demand and was involved in over 50 commercials in addition to successful movies like Gentleman, Kadhalan, Indian and a host of Hindi films like Hulchul, Bhaagban, Hera Pheri. He also directed the Hindi version of 'Run'.
For a generation of movie fans who admire beautifully picturized films, Jeeva was an ideal choice. His innate talent with the camera made him amazingly popular among college goers. A fine artist par excellence, Jeeva kept himself abreast with all the technological developments in the world of cinematography and used this talent to showcase themselves aptly in the storyline. A unique feature only a handful director is capable of handling.
Jeeva was working on the film Dhaam Dhoom last year when he died of acute cardiac arrest. The film was being shot in Russia with P. C. Shriram as cinematographer and starring Jayam Ravi with Kanaga Ranaut. The film is about a medical practitioner who goes over to Russia for a medical conference and ends up feeling a stranger in a strange place.
With his untimely death, his wife Anees Tanvir has taken up the mantel of completing the film and is expected to release soon.
Anees Tanvir, a popular costume designer has started a production house 'Vision Jeeva Studios' with a mission to continue the late filmmaker's passion towards films. The production house is coming up with a movie titled 'Muthirai' and is to be directed by one of Jeeva's assistants Srinath.
Let's hope 'Vision Jeeva Studio' lives up to the Jeeva's passion for filmmaking and comes out with flying colors.
Tamil Cinema will always remember Jeeva for his exhilarating passion and strive to continue on the trend he so successfully etched out.
